The Jason George, St Lawrence Market, Toronto
Founding Artistic Director of the Mozart Project and
Conductor of the Toronto Mozart Players
Leslie Dawn Knowles,
Concertmaster of the Toronto Mozart Players
Mozart’s own violin housed at the Mozarteum in Salzburg sparks the imagination. What would it have sounded like to hear the master play? His father, Leopold wrote his well respected treatise on playing the violin during the year Wolfgang was born. The young musician inherited a performance style from his father’s generation but a stylistic shift would occur during Mozart’s lifetime coinciding with the evolution and standardization of the violin bow. Mozart composed for every instrument available to him and for every combination of instruments. The violin music is characteristic of Mozart’s musical expression and offers a portrait of the composer and the musical style of his time.
David Bowser, Founder and Artistic Director of the Mozart Project, will present A Free Discussion on Mozart’s Violin music and performance style. Toronto Mozart Players concertmaster, Leslie Dawn Knowles will perform excerpts from Mozart’s violin repertoire to illustrate Mozart’s approach to composition and performance.
