Julia is a Canadian soprano currently pursuing her Master of Music Degree at Western University. She’s been recognized with several scholarships, including the Lindsay Memorial Scholarship, Music Entrance Scholarship, Western Graduate Research Scholarship, and Lily Niblock Memorial Scholarship. She recently won 3rd place in the Toronto Mozart Vocal Competition in January 2024.
Her earliest performances included being the soloist in the London Community Orchestra’s 2018 Young Soloist Concert and featuring in Opera Nuova’s Coast to Coast recital series in June 2020. Her opera role experience began with Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and then Morgana in Handel’s Alcina in 2021. Then Amor in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea in June 2022, and Nannetta in Verdi’s Falstaff 2023.
She made her European debut in Berlin, Germany, playing the role of Despina in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte with Berlin Opera Academy, and shortly after sang the role again in Quebec for L’Opéra de Trois-Rivières in September 2023. Her most recent role was Miss Wordsworth in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring.
Julia is an experienced performer, showcasing her talent with orchestras and chamber groups. Her repertoire covers a wide range from early to contemporary music, highlighting her versatility and musical skill. She is excited to give her graduating recital in April 2024 and looks forward to premiering a voice and guitar composition by Canadian guitarist and composer Madeline Hall.
